A winter storm will sweep across the Rockies , Plains, and Upper Midwest , bringing heavy snow , strong winds, and blizzard conditions



In   some  parts   of  the Plains and upper Midwest ,   you   could  experience dangerous travel  conditions  from  blizzards  or near- blizzards   from this storm .

A winter storm tracking through the West will emerge in the Plains and upper Midwest by Tuesday night into Wednesday. A combination of snow and high winds will produce blizzard conditions in some areas, resulting in dangerous travel conditions.This weather system has been named Winter Storm Nyla by The Weather Channel.
The storm is producing snowfall in the interior West right now, as the latest radar shows below. Salt Lake City is the largest city seeing snowfall from the storm today, which could impact travel in the metro area.

Parts of California's northern Sierra Nevada saw around a foot of snow from this system on Monday.

Various winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service in the mountain West for the snowfall and gusty winds.

Blizzard warnings are now in effect for parts of the Plains, including from northwest Kansas to central and eastern Nebraska, western Iowa, far southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota. That includes Omaha, Nebraska, and Sioux City, Iowa.

Winter storm watches stretch northeastward from there through southeast Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Some of these areas could be upgraded to blizzard warnings or winter storm warnings later today.

Timing the Storm
-Tuesday: Much of the northern and central Rockies will be impacted by snowfall. Some snow could reach as far east as South Dakota during the day.


The storm will also contribute to strong winds in the southern and central High Plains, leading to high fire danger and possibly blowing dust.

-Tuesday Night: Snow or rain changing to snow and increasing winds will advance across parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota. Blizzard conditions will develop in the Central Plains.
