Catherine O'Hara revealed the poignant manner in which she wished to pass away 13 years prior to her death.
Almost 13 years before her passing at the age of 71, the Home Alone star expressed her preferences regarding her death and the identity she hoped to embody in her next life.
Catherine O'Hara consistently brought joy to those around her—and she wished to continue doing so even as her life drew to a close.
More than ten years prior to the passing of the Home Alone actress at the age of 71 due to a short illness, she expressed her desires regarding her death, sharing how she envisioned her last moments.
"Laughing," the Schitt’s Creek star stated in a questionnaire for Vanity Fair's October 2013 issue. "Surrounded by my older grandchildren, who are telling me to 'let go, already, Grandma!'
Catherine—who has two sons, Matthew Welch, 32, and Luke Welch, 28, with her husband Bo Welch, but was not known to have grandchildren—was also open to the concept of reincarnation, humorously adding, "I’ve got to believe God is into recycling. I’d like to return in the form of a much more advanced individual with beautiful, thick hair and skin that tans."
It was this delightful self-mockery and zest for life that endeared Catherine to everyone she encountered. Thus, it came as no surprise that the world was utterly devastated when the news of her passing was announced on January 30.
Stars from Hollywood took to social media to convey their sorrow, with her Home Alone co-star Macaulay Culkin sharing a poignant tribute to his on-screen mother, stating in part, "Mama. I thought we had time."
Her Studio co-star Seth Rogen was also among her celebrity friends grappling with the news, expressing in his own tribute, "I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen. Home Alone was the film that inspired me to pursue filmmaking."
"Working with her was a genuine privilege," he added. "She was hilarious, compassionate, perceptive, and generous… she motivated me to ensure our show was worthy of her involvement. This is truly heartbreaking. We are all fortunate to have lived in a world that included her.
