Renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her spouse, Dr. Ivara Esege, have experienced the tragic loss of one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi.
As per a statement released on Thursday by Omawumi Ogbe on behalf of the family, the 21-month-old child passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following a brief illness.
The statement indicated that the family is heartbroken over this loss and has requested that their privacy be honored during this challenging time.
The statement reads, “We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of one of Ms. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr. Ivara Esege’s twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, who departed on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a short illness. He was 21 months old.
“The family is devastated by this significant loss, and we kindly ask that their privacy be respected during this exceptionally difficult time.
“We seek your grace and prayers as they grieve in solitude.
“No additional statements will be issued, and we appreciate the public and media for honoring their need for privacy during this period of profound sorrow.
