Reps extend an invitation to the chairman of the EFCC, VeryDarkMan, and Bobrisky regarding allegations of bribery.

The House of Representatives has summoned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan, and all officials involved in the prosecution of Bobrisky.

This information was conveyed in a letter from Jon Ginger Onwusibe, the Lead Chairman of the joint committee, addressed to the relevant parties on Friday, in response to serious allegations of corruption against the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Services.

Additional individuals invited include ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, who was the Controller of Corrections for the Lagos Command at that time, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board, Micheal Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections overseeing medium security, Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections responsible for maximum security, as well as Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan.

Background:

In April, the EFCC apprehended Bobrisky on six charges related to money laundering and the mutilation of the Naira.

During the proceedings at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro dismissed the money laundering charges (counts five and six) but sentenced the social media figure to six months in prison for Naira abuse.

However, shortly after his release, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, shared a leaked audio recording on Instagram in which Bobrisky recounted his experiences during incarceration.

In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly discusses with a friend how EFCC officials purportedly extorted N15 million from him in exchange for dropping the money laundering charges. VeryDarkMan stated that he released the audio after Bobrisky failed to repay N4 million borrowed from one of the individuals he approached to gather the N15 million.

On Tuesday evening, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede issued a statement calling for an immediate investigation into the bribery allegations.

Mr. Olukoyede also requested that Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan report to the EFCC’s Lagos office to assist with the investigation.

Furthermore, Vanguard reported that the Minister of Interior has initiated a separate inquiry into Bobrisky’s assertion regarding bribery within the prison system.
